CIR Risk Management Awards 2023
Risk Manager of the Year: How Peregrine’s CIR Award Win Reflects Our Approach to Security Risk Management
We are proud to share that Peregrine Risk Management had an exceptional evening at the CIR Risk Management Awards 2023, culminating in Co-Founder and Director James Lawrence being named Risk Manager of the Year.
Held at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square on Thursday 30th November, the evening was a genuine milestone for our team and a reflection of the work, standards, and values that sit at the heart of everything we do.
What are the CIR Risk Management Awards and Why Are They Important?
The CIR Risk Management Awards are among the most respected and closely watched industry events in the UK risk and resilience calendar. Hosted by Continuity, Insurance & Risk magazine, the awards recognise excellence across the full spectrum of risk management, from individual practitioners shaping the discipline to the specialist companies setting the benchmark for quality and client service.
The Risk Manager of the Year award, in particular, carries significant weight. It recognises individuals who have demonstrated sustained leadership, strategic thinking, and a genuine impact on risk management practice. Not just within their own organisations, but across the wider profession. According to CIR, the award is the “hallmark of outstanding performance”. Being shortlisted is an achievement in itself, and winning is a statement.
Peregrine Risk Management is a specialist security risk management company and risk management consultancy in the UK. The CIR Awards recognition reflects the same commitment to quality, rigour and client outcomes that underpins every engagement we take on.
How Did Peregrine Perform at CIR 2023?
Peregrine Risk Management entered the evening with four nominations across the board:
- James Lawrence — Risk Manager of the Year
- James Lawrence — Risk Champion
- Rebecca Jenkins, Intelligence Services Manager — Newcomer of the Year
- Peregrine Risk Management — Risk Management Specialist Company of the Year
To receive four nominations across individual and company categories is a strong signal that Peregrine's work is being recognised at the highest level of the profession. We were proud to be in contention in each category but it was the Risk Manager of the Year award that made the evening truly memorable.
James commented: "I am thrilled to have won Risk Manager of the Year, but this award is not just mine. Without my business partner and brother in arms, Wayne Britton, Peregrine Risk Management would not be in a position to win such honoured awards and attend such prestigious events."
A heartfelt congratulations to all of the evening's winners.

Why This Award Matters When Choosing a Security Risk Management Company
Awards matter when they reflect something real, and this one does.
Peregrine Risk Management holds SIA Approved Contractor Status, placing us in the top 10% of UK security companies for quality, compliance, and professional standards. That independent benchmark was set before the CIR nomination. James Lawrence being named Risk Manager of the Year at one of the UK's most prestigious risk management events reinforces what our clients already know: that they are working with a security risk management company that takes its responsibilities seriously.
When clients engage a risk management consultancy in the UK, they are making a decision that matters. They are entrusting the safety of themselves and/or others to an external team. The credentials attached to that team (the awards, the accreditations, the depth of experience) are not simply marketing, they are signals of accountability and quality that clients deserve to know about.
Whether you are a corporate client managing complex travel risk, an organisation seeking protective intelligence for senior leadership, or a business reviewing your overall security posture, the standard of the consultancy you work with makes a direct difference to outcomes. Our nominations and award win at CIR 2023, alongside our SIA ACS status and ISO 31030:2021 accreditation, are the kind of independently verified markers that should inform that decision.

The CIR Risk Management Awards are hosted annually by Continuity, Insurance & Risk magazine and are widely regarded as one of the most prestigious award programmes in the UK risk profession. The Risk Manager of the Year award recognises individual practitioners who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, innovation, and a measurable impact on risk management practice. It is judged by an independent panel of senior industry professionals and is open to risk managers operating across any sector.
2. What makes Peregrine Risk Management a credible security risk management company?
Peregrine Risk Management holds SIA Approved Contractor Status, an independently assessed accreditation that places us in the top 10% of UK security companies for quality and professional standards. We are also ISO 31030:2021 accredited for travel risk management. Our Co-Founder and Director James Lawrence was named Risk Manager of the Year at the CIR Awards 2023, and our Intelligence Services Manager Rebecca Jenkins was shortlisted for Newcomer of the Year. These credentials, combined with the operational experience of our ex-military leadership team, provide clients with independently verified confidence in the quality of our work.
3. Who leads Peregrine Risk Management?
Peregrine Risk Management was co-founded by James Lawrence and Wayne Britton, both former UK Armed Forces officers. James holds an MSc, is a Chartered Security Professional (CSyP), and is a Fellow of the Institute of Strategic Risk Management (F.ISRM). He leads the company's strategic direction and client engagement and was named Risk Manager of the Year at the CIR Awards 2023. 4. What security risk management services does Peregrine offer?
Peregrine delivers a comprehensive range of security risk management services, including protective intelligence, travel risk management, close protection, security consultancy, threat and risk assessments, and specialist training, including SIA Level 3 Close Protection courses. Our services are available to corporate clients, NGOs, private individuals, and organisations operating across complex and high-risk environments globally.
5. How do I choose a trusted security risk management company in the UK?
When selecting a risk management consultancy in the UK, we recommend looking for independently verified accreditations, in particular, SIA Approved Contractor Status and ISO 31030:2021 certification for travel risk. Look for a consultancy led by practitioners with genuine operational backgrounds, not simply commercial security experience. Consider whether they have been recognised by independent industry bodies, and whether their leadership team is active in the professional community. Peregrine Risk Management meets all of these criteria and the CIR Awards 2023 recognition is one more independent data point in that assessment.
