With the Rugby World Cup starting this Friday 8th September until Saturday 28th October, our Forwards, Backs and Subs have some travel advice and tips for those travelling to watch any of the matches in France!
FORWARDS – What you do before you go
- Check your luggage before departure for any item that may cause offence.
- At French border control, make sure to have evidence of accommodation, travel insurance and sufficient funds.

- Ensure emergency contacts are to hand and known by all those within your group.
- Research, understand, and respect the local laws, beliefs, and culture.
- If you require medication, ensure you travel with sufficient supply.
- Understand the terrorism response protocols of 'Run, Hide, Tell'.
- Check the weather forecast for the host cities and pack appropriate clothing.

- Do not wear attire which could cause offence – e.g., religious and political connotations.
- It is illegal to cover your face in public.
- Always carry a photo ID, such as your passport. Police conduct random checks.
- Monitor local news. A reliable French media outlet is France 24.
- Be mindful when taking photography in France. Especially of security infrastructure and personnel.
- Industrial action and aggressive protest are frequent in France. Avoid at all costs, and if it occurs expect disruption and delays.
- Do not discuss contentious topics in public or online.

- Locate suitable medical facilities before travel.
- Identify safe heavens, such as police stations or hospitals around your accommodation and places of visit.
- Identify rally points at each stadium before departure in case your group gets split up.
